St Georges Church Undercroft, Hanover Square
Architect: Thomas Ford and Partners
Contractor: NDB Construction Ltd
St. Georges Church is located in Hanover Square, in the London borough of Mayfair. It is a Grade 1 listed building dating back to 1721. The original design was created by the architect John James, who was an assistant to Sir Christopher Wren. Famously, one of its most notable parishioners was the composer George Friderick Handel, who was such a regular worshipper he even had his own pew.
This project comprises the development of the church undercroft and the provision of an accessible lift entrance. This requires layout alterations, new flooring and staircase, a new extension providing disabled lift access, general repairs, redecoration, new lighting installations, new audio-visual installations, air conditioning and works to the underground drainage. All of this is being carried out whilst preserving as much of the historic fabric and character of the building as possible.
Works commenced in September 2017 and are currently progressing.
