Kevin Newland

Director

Kevin joined D.R. Nolans in 1985 and has steadily progressed through the roles of Partner, Principal and now Director of the Practice. With over 30 years’ experience in all types of construction work, Kevin has spent the past two decades developing an extensive specialism in works to historic buildings. His deep knowledge and dedication ensure that the Practice consistently delivers the high standards it is known for, always putting clients’ best interests first.

As Director, Kevin is the main point of contact for many clients, overseeing projects from initial cost planning and tender documentation to post-contract stages. He remains closely involved with all projects across the Practice, ensuring quality, financial clarity and excellent results. Kevin often acts as Project Surveyor himself and takes pride in maintaining open, trusted relationships with clients and the wider team.

Outside of work, Kevin is an enthusiastic cyclist and runs a local cycling racing club. He is also a long-suffering supporter of Fulham Football Club and enjoys holidays anywhere warm!

James Coad

Head of Post Contract

James joined D.R. Nolans in 2002 and brings over two decades of valuable experience to the team. Throughout his career, he has provided cost advice and guidance at every stage of a project, from producing tender and contract documents to attending client and team meetings. As Head of the Post Contract Department, James oversees key project stages and plays an active role in training and managing the company’s trainees — something he finds especially rewarding.

James is a hardworking and dedicated surveyor who particularly enjoys the challenge and variety that historic building projects bring. He thrives in collaborative team settings and is committed to delivering the best possible results for clients. Among his career highlights are working on award-winning projects such as The High Street 2012 Historic Building Conservation Scheme (RIBA Award) and the RICS Building Conservation Category winner for Opening Up The Soane – Sir John Soane’s Museum.

Outside work, James loves spending time with family and friends, travelling to new places, and staying active. A keen sports enthusiast, he played football for many years and now enjoys golf. He also supports charitable causes, especially animal conservation.

Brad Roberts

Head of Pre Contract

Brad joined D.R. Nolans in 2006 and has become a committed and enthusiastic member of the team. With a degree in Quantity Surveying, he is currently working towards completing his Assessment of Professional Competence with the RICS — a reflection of his drive for professional growth. Brad enjoys collaborating closely with design teams dedicated to the restoration and repair of historic and listed buildings, an area of work he finds particularly rewarding.

In his role, Brad attends client and team meetings, produces tender and contract documents, and provides clear cost advice and guidance throughout all stages of a project. He also plays an active part in training and managing company trainees, sharing his experience and positive approach with the next generation.

Brad loves a challenge and is always looking for ways to develop and progress. Outside of work, he keeps fit and is a loyal supporter of Arsenal Football Club (most of the time). A keen sun-seeker, he is happiest on a beach somewhere hot, but when he’s at home, he enjoys spending time with friends and family or catching the latest releases at the cinema.

Jon Hill

Senior Surveyor

Jon joined D.R. Nolans in 2021 and is known for being hardworking, fair, and dedicated in every aspect of his work. With a postgraduate degree in Quantity Surveying completed in 2004 and Chartered status with the CIOB achieved in 2012, Jon brings over 20 years of experience covering all types of construction projects. His tenacious, adaptable nature makes him a reliable member of the team, always focused on delivering the best outcomes for clients.

In his role, Jon handles cost planning, the production of tender and contract documents, and provides clear cost advice and guidance at each project stage. He thrives on building strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike, ensuring that every project runs smoothly and successfully. Jon’s broad expertise and approachable manner make him a valued part of the Practice’s collaborative team culture.

Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending quality time with his family and has a passion for home renovation projects. He is also a keen writer and is currently working on his second book.

Chris Wills

Senior Surveyor

Chris joined D.R. Nolans in April 2025, bringing with him substantial experience in Quantity Surveying, Project Management, and Commercial Management across a diverse range of sectors. Having delivered projects from inception to completion in the UK and Australia, Chris has developed expertise working on everything from mega construction and infrastructure projects to laboratory conversions and individual residential schemes.

In his career so far, Chris has managed multidisciplinary delivery teams, including Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, and Clients. He communicates effectively at all levels, from clients and investment partners to approvals boards and committees. With a strong focus on budgets, governance, safety, and quality, he is highly skilled in strategic cost planning, feasibility reporting, risk analysis, procurement strategy, and contract management. He also has specialist experience in dispute work and adjudication, notably with the RICS Oceania Region.

At D.R. Nolans, Chris works as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, contributing to both the pre and post contract stages of projects. His current work spans multiple disciplines, including dispute resolution, super prime residential dwellings, hotel developments, and carbon footprint reduction projects.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys keeping fit at the gym, supporting Rugby Union as a former player, spending quality time with his family, and walking their dogs.

Ashley Groves

Surveyor

Ash joined D.R. Nolans in 2018 and successfully completed the Practice’s apprenticeship pathway, reflecting his commitment to continuous development and hard work. Now a qualified surveyor, Ash works across both pre-contract and post-contract aspects of construction projects, always guided by his core values of communication, determination, motivation, and teamwork.

In his role, Ash is responsible for the day-to-day running of projects on site, carrying out monthly valuations, preparing client cost reports, and negotiating final accounts. He also supports the pre-contract department with tasks such as preparing cost plans, producing tender documents, reviewing tender returns, and finalising contracts. Ash enjoys the variety this brings and takes pride in ensuring every project meets clients’ expectations.

Having completed his degree, Ash is now focused on progressing towards Chartered status and is keen to be involved with many large and successful projects in the future.

Outside of work, Ash is a passionate Formula 1 fan who never misses a race. When he’s not watching the F1, he enjoys long walks with his dog and spending quality time socialising with family and friends.

Valentina Daniliuc

Apprentice Surveyor

Valentina joined D.R. Nolans in 2025 as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, beginning an exciting new chapter in the UK construction sector after building a strong career overseas. Before moving to the UK, Valentina spent many years working in Ukraine in property and land valuation, developing a solid foundation in analysis, organisation, and attention to detail — skills that serve her well as she builds her future in quantity surveying.

In her current role, Valentina supports the team with both pre and post contract tasks and is keen to gain hands-on experience across different project stages. She appreciates the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues and is dedicated to developing her technical knowledge while contributing positively to the supportive team environment at D.R. Nolans.

Outside of work, Valentina enjoys spending time with her family and loves to explore new places whenever she can.

Sales & Marketing Manager

James joined D.R. Nolans in 2020 and has a wealth of experience in people-focused industries and a strong track record of driving growth and building lasting relationships. After years working in the charitable sector, James successfully transitioned into recruitment, where he developed a reputation for consistently achieving excellent sales figures, winning new business, and building high-performing teams. His ability to connect with people and understand what motivates them has helped countless companies find top talent and individuals secure their dream roles.

With his solid background in sales and marketing, James now helps D.R. Nolans engage with the market and strengthen relationships with clients old and new. He thrives on creating meaningful connections and ensuring that the Practice’s reputation for exceptional service continues to grow.

Outside of work, James is a devoted father of three and an avid Stoke City supporter. He’s also a published author of two books and once had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch, reflecting his passion for community and achievement.

Bee Andrews

Administration & Office Manager

Bee joined D.R. Nolans in early 2021 and quickly became an integral part of the team. She provides high-level administrative support to the Director and Surveyors, ensuring the Practice runs smoothly and efficiently every day. Bee is also responsible for overseeing the company’s International Standard Procedures and Compliance, helping to maintain the high standards that D.R. Nolans is known for. 

Bee brings a diverse background spanning administration, customer service, and claims management. She previously managed a large high net worth portfolio of claims for a global loss adjuster. Her career has also included working with both global organisations and independent businesses, as well as several years in local government at Kent County Council. This broad experience gives Bee a flexible, solutions-focused mindset and a valuable understanding of different working environments.

Outside of work, Bee enjoys seeing local bands, watching films and series, reading, meals out and keeping active with gym classes. She also enjoys relaxing holidays whenever she can, and spending time with her partner and beloved cat, Hugo.

Jane Cantwell

HR and Compliance Manager

Jane joined D. R. Nolans in early 2025 and is an enthusiastic, highly driven strategic people leader who brings a wealth of experience to D.R. Nolans. Starting her career at M&S, Jane quickly discovered that people were her passion and that HR was where she belonged. During her 15 years with M&S, she held various HR and Training & Development roles across the Kent region, with the successful pre- and post-opening partnership with the flagship Bluewater store standing out as one of her career highlights.

After a short career break to raise her growing family, Jane moved into consultancy, specialising in HR and Health & Safety management. It was during this time that she developed an interest in compliance and operational management, expanding her expertise into ISO standards including Quality 9001, Environmental 14001, and Occupational Health & Safety 45001. Jane has supported clients across a wide range of industries — from construction and manufacturing to property development, commercial cleaning, and hospitality — providing HR, H&S, operational management, and ISO guidance.

Outside of work, Jane is a devoted mum to six daughters and a son, and a proud grandmother of 14. She also cares for her mum, whom she describes as her rock and best friend. In her spare time, Jane loves helping her family, going on lazy walks with her Bichon Frisé, Cauliflower, and enjoying holidays anywhere with great food and wine.

Hope Newland

Administrator

Hope joined D.R. Nolans to help keep the office running smoothly and efficiently every day. As Office Administrator, she handles a wide range of day-to-day administrative tasks, ensuring that everything is organised and well-coordinated behind the scenes. Hope answers telephone calls and emails promptly so the surveyors can stay focused on delivering the best results for clients, and she makes sure the office is always stocked with the supplies the team needs to do their jobs well.

Her supportive, can-do attitude means no detail is overlooked — whether she’s coordinating schedules, helping colleagues with their queries, or organising the annual Christmas party that everyone looks forward to.

Hope’s approachable nature and eye for detail help create a welcoming environment for both staff and visitors. She enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and takes pride in helping the office run like clockwork.

Outside of work, Hope loves shopping and spending time outdoors with her two beloved dogs — Boston Terrier Patsy and her Boxer puppy Stanley.

D.R. Nolans & Co. have long experience in all types of new build projects, alteration and repair projects and, for many years, conservation of important historic buildings.

D.R. Nolans & Co. Chartered Quantity Surveyors are independent cost consultants with over 90 years’ experience. We offer a full suite of bespoke cost management services, coupled with specialist expertise and highly professional delivery.

Since 1928, we have had the best interests of building owners at our heart. As a result of this and our history of exceptional service, we have earned considerable respect within the industry. The firm remained in practice in both London and Maidstone up to and through the 1939 – 1945 War and thereafter until 1977 when the London Office was merged with Sydney Gordon and Partners as Sydney Gordon Nolans. The Maidstone office continued under the original title and has so remained until the present date, with the addition of a London office in 2022. D. R. Nolans continue to grow and offer their services across the whole of the UK.
